CAL Track and CC Coach since 2005
2007 CC Boys State Coach of Year
2007 Track Girls Regional Coach of Year

-Started running in 1978.

-kept a running log since 1980 and have recorded every step since, so far accumulating approx. 45,000 miles. This is close to twice around the earth. Earth circumference is 24,900miles.

-High School: Oldham County HS from 1979-81, before moving to Iowa and running for Cedar Rapids Washington HS.

            PR's in xc: 5K - 17:04 in KY, 2 mile (IA competition distance) - 10:12

            PR's in track:  1600 - 4:41, 3200 - 9:59

College: Ran for 2 years at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State), lettered in both cross and track my sophomore year.

        PR's in xc: 8K - 26:05, 10K - 33 something (would have to look that one up)

PR's in track: 5K - 15:23 (indoor), 10K - 33:31 (placing 4th in conference in '85), Steeplechase - a        not so good 10:07 (my only excuse is that every time I ran it, it was in the 40's and my feet would       be totally numb by the second lap)

-Fun fact: teammate Ray Armstead was an Olympic Gold Medalist in the '84 Los Angeles Games.  He ran the 3rd fastest split of the Olympics - 43.97!

Post College: Have continued to race over the years in just about every type of racing.

        Random track PR's:  100 - 12.18, 200 - 25.67, 400 - 54.6, 800 - 2:04.9, 1500 - 4:15, LJ - 19' 3"

        XC: 10K - 33:35 at Purdue

-Various road racing PR's: 5K - 15:30, 10K - 32:00 (really regret that it wasn't 1 second faster to technically be in the 31's), 10 mile - 54:50, 1/2 marathon - 1:14:06 (won that one ;-), marathon - 3:05:54 (was on pace for a solid sub-3 once before things fell apart and struggled to the line in 3:16:32)

-Fun fact: Led 4-time Boston & NY marathon winner Bill Rodgers for 5 miles in the Bix 7 Mile Race.  For the record, he blew my doors off the last 2 miles and beat me by just less than a minute.  Then a couple of years later at a race, I got to talk to him about it.  Most of you probably could care less about this, but Boston Billy was one of my running heroes.  Another was Jim Ryun, who I also had the pleasure of getting to meet.

-Still have a few running goals left.  One is to see how old I can be and still break 5 in the mile.  Would like to run in the Boston Marathon (have qualified before, but unable to get there).

I began coaching in the spring of 1993, coaching the Carroll Junior High School track team.  In '95, I took over as head coach of the HS team and stayed in this position until moving to KY in '05.  I also was the Carroll JH cross country coach from '95-'04.  Currently, I am part of the CAL xc/track dynasty.
